Twenty Ways You Can Help Support ABC No Rio
--01. Send a contribution today.
--02. Ask friends, family, or anyone you know who is down with ABC No Rio's mission and purpose to send a contribution today. Informational brochures about ABC No Rio are available for you to download and print.
--03. Let us know about any funding opportunities you may be aware of, especially individuals or foundations down with No Rio's mission and purpose. You can contact us at abc@abcnorio.org.
--04. Find out if your employer has a matching gifts program for charitable contributions. Often you can double the size of your gift by getting your boss to pitch-in! Ask your friends and family to do the same.
--05. Purchase a copy of either the 156 Rivington video or the Solidarity CD.
--06. Invite ten to twenty friends over. Play the 156 Rivington video, or any other entertaining video you think they might enjoy. Serve them dinner or snacks. Tell them you made a contribution to ABC No Rio and ask them to give a similar amount. Send us their donations, along with their names and addresses so we can send them thank-you letters. (It's a good idea to let those you're inviting know beforehand that you will be requesting gifts on behalf of ABC No Rio.)
--07. Host a "house party" on behalf of ABC No Rio. Be sure to publicize it as such. As your guests arrive give each an envelope and ask them to make a $5 to $50 gift to ABC No Rio. Let them know how much you have given or plan to give. Send us their donations, along with their names and addresses so we can send them thank-you letters.
--08. Host a dinner party at your home or the home of a friend. Plan a special and unique evening. Serve unusual or gourmet food. Request $50 or more from each guest. Send us their donations, along with their names and addresses so we can send them thank-you letters.
--09. Pledge to give ABC No Rio $10 or $20 each month, and ask two friends to do the same. Make sure to send us your gifts!
--10. Ask three to five friends to join you in saving loose change for the next three months. Count it, and send ABC No Rio a check or money order for that amount.
--11. Invite people to your birthday party and ask that instead of giving you a gift they send a contribution on your behalf to ABC No Rio.
--12. Organize a "Challenge Campaign." Challenge gifts can be small. Tell people that you will give $5 for every $25 they give, or that you will match every $50 gift up to 10 gifts. For added suspense, make this challenge during a fundraising event you've organized. You or the host can announce the challenge. Send us the gifts, along with the names and addresses of the donors so we can send them thank-you letters.
--13. Offer to do something your friends or family have been nagging you to do and attach a price to it. For example, offer to quit smoking on the condition that your friends donate to ABC No Rio, or to pay a certain amount for every day you don't smoke for up to 30 days. Agree to match their gifts at the end of 30 days if you didn't smoke and to give them their money back if you did. (This could also be applied to other healthy behaviours, such as exercising or not eating sugar; or to chores, such as cleaning the basement or garage, or making household repairs.)
--14. If, when younger, you avidly collected something now stashed away in your basement or attic, consider selling it. Donate the proceeds to ABC No Rio.
--15. For those with a lot of extra cash: give ABC No Rio an interest-free $10,000 loan for seven or 13 months. We'll purchase a six-month or one-year Certificate of Deposit. At expiration we'll keep the accrued interest and return your money. OR, at your own bank purchase a $10,000 Certificate of Deposit. At expiration send the accrued interest to ABC No Rio as a charitable contribution. Ask others you know who can afford to do so to do the same.
--16. Organize a benefit event for ABC No Rio with bands, performers, speakers, or any other enticing entertainment. Keep expenses and outlays limited and modest. Price the event appropriately. Have brochures and information about ABC No Rio available. Send us the proceeds, along with the names and addresses of all performers and helpers so we can send them thank-you letters.
--17. Organize a sidewalk, stoop, or garage sale for your neighborhood or building. Ask your neighbors to participate: tell them you will take their stuff outside and sit with it all day to sell it if they will donate half or all of the proceeds to ABC No Rio. This is a good deal for them since they probably want to get rid of this stuff anyway. Price the goods to move. Send the proceeds to ABC No Rio.
--18. Organize a "service raffle." Get three people to join you in donating a simple but valuable service, such as one day of childcare, housecleaning, yard work or painting. Sell raffle tickets for $10 to $20 each. Keep the price a little high so you don't need to sell as many tickets, and so the buyers have a better chance of winning. Encourage people to buy several by offering discounts for multiple purchases ($10 for one, $20 for two, but $25 for three, $35 for 4, $40 for 5, etc.). Eight hours of housecleaning or childcare for $25 to $40 is a real bargain. Send the proceeds from your "service raffle" to ABC No Rio.

Keep your costs under control when organizing benefit events. Ask for space and materials to be donated if possible. Money-losing benefits are a heartbreaker!
