"I create works about nature as it succumbs to climate change, a cause and symptom of our society's turmoil and greed. 'The Green of the Globe is Disappearing,' a series on 5 endangered trees, blends a Western sensibility with influences of Eastern art and the immediacy of graphic design. Each shows the brown, dying trees reflected in precious droplets of water, surrounded by words and icons expressing the causes of their decline. The inspiration came from a hike in nature, my first during the pandemic, timed with news of the devastating wild fires. Many trees around the world face extinction as we decimate our forests and water becomes an ever more finite resource."
Linda Byrne was born and raised in New York City, an influence on her way of seeing. Exhibitions include "Current/Undercurrent" at UMass Amherst, "Altered States" at Marymount Hewitt Gallery, and "Brimming On The Edge" produced by The West Harlem Art Fund. Linda collaborated with the poet and sound artist, Maggie Dubris, on two installations about our disappearing natural world, with their "Vanishing Oceans Project" included in the international traveling exhibition "The Universal Sea: Pure or Plastic." She has received several residencies, including Ucross and Jentel in Wyoming, and a Jerome Foundation and chashama Grant.
