The images from the Chinatown Series were taken
during a critical period of my years living in
New York. I explored the areas below
Canal St.
and east of Broadway down to the river, and saw the multitude
of immigrant lives going through their ways in this world so
far apart, geographically and mentally, from their previous
ones. And yet they survive, and perhaps thrive, as the strong
always do, and live in contradiction to the social norm.
These "Morning" images depict the exciting first rays of light
dawning upon the too often grim streets of lower Manhattan.
