Amy Westpfahl received a BFA degree from the
Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science where she is now
employed. Currently pursuing her graduate studies at the City
University of New York,
Hunter College, she will receive her MFA in 2007. She has been
a collective member of ABC No Rio for 10 years.
A mixed media artist, her work deals
primarily with photography and is inspired by her history of
collective practice. The work addresses the social and
political dynamics of the urban landscape.
The two photos included in this portfolio
document the interior spaces of two squats in the
Lower East Side. One photograph represents the renovation of
one of the spaces at ABC No Rio during its transition from a
dwelling space into a community darkroom. The other photograph
documents the baracading effort of the front interior of the
Dos Blockos squat during its final eviction.
